Danville Area School District is looking for a K-2 librarian. This is a
new position -- making a total of four school librarians in our district --
and the position is being created for our brand new primary center that
will open its doors in August, 2011. Our school board approved this as a
permanent position last night.
Danville is a small town located about 60 miles north of Harrisburg on
Interstate 80. It is the home of Geisinger, a major regional medial center
and a Merck pharmaceutical plant. There are about 180 students in each
grade.
This is a great opportunity for the right school librarian to really make
an impact on a school culture. The position includes responsibilities for
gifted support of a small number of identified gifted students and ideally
involves supporting the faculty as they use the new technology that will be
available in the new building. There is good cooperation between school
librarians K-12 and a very supportive Special Education Director who will
oversee the gifted support duties.
The official advertisement is reprinted below. It is a tribute to the
importance placed on school libraries by our district that when we are
cutting other positions - we are adding a new librarian position.
